CUSTOM/
DECKS.

Multi-level composite decks, elevated platforms, stairs, and railings — built to expand your living space and handle Central PA weather for decades.

OVERVIEW / 01

OUTDOOR LIVING
BUILT RIGHT.

A deck is the most-used square footage you'll add to a home — and the most exposed to weather. The difference between a deck that's solid and beautiful at 20 years and one that's rotting and wobbling at 6 is in the footings, the framing, the fasteners, and the flashing where it meets the house. We don't cut those corners.

Muthler Construction builds custom decks across Central PA — multi-level composite decks, elevated platforms over sloped yards, stairs, railings, and full outdoor living structures. Proper footings below frost line, hidden fasteners, and materials built to last.

CAPABILITIES / 02

WHAT WE
BUILD.

01

Composite Decks

Low-maintenance composite decking in your choice of color and grain. No staining, no splinters, no annual upkeep — just decades of looking good.

02

Multi-Level Decks

Stepped, tiered decks that work with sloped yards and create distinct zones for dining, lounging, and grilling.

03

Deck Stairs & Access

Code-compliant stairs, landings, and ramps. Solid footing, proper rise/run, and railings that meet PA building code.

04

Railings & Balusters

Aluminum, composite, or cable railings — black metal balusters for a clean modern look. Safe, sturdy, and built to last.

05

Elevated & Rooftop Decks

Second-story decks, decks over walkout basements, and elevated platforms engineered for the height and load.

06

Screened & Covered Decks

Add a roof or screen enclosure to extend the season — keep the bugs out and the deck usable rain or shine.

FAQ / 05

COMMON
QUESTIONS.

How long does it take to build a deck?
A standard single-level deck: 1–2 weeks. Larger multi-level decks with stairs, railings, and screening: 2–4 weeks. Weather and permit timing factor in — we give a realistic schedule at contract.
Composite or wood — which should I choose?
Composite costs more up front but needs almost no maintenance and lasts 25+ years without staining or sealing. Pressure-treated wood is cheaper but needs annual upkeep. For most homeowners, composite pays off over time. We'll walk you through both honestly.
Do I need a permit for a deck?
Almost always yes — most townships require a permit for any attached deck or one above a certain height. We handle the permit and build to code. Unpermitted decks cause problems on resale and can be a safety risk.
Can you build a deck on a steep or sloped yard?
Yes — elevated and multi-level decks are ideal for slopes. We engineer the footings and framing for the grade. A sloped yard often makes for a more dramatic, usable deck.
Can you add stairs down to a patio or yard?
Absolutely — deck stairs to a patio, yard, or walkway are one of the most common parts of our deck builds. Code-compliant rise/run, solid footings, and matching railings.
Can you screen in or cover the deck?
Yes — we build screened enclosures and roof covers to extend your season and keep the bugs out. Many of our decks include a covered section plus an open section.
